1st December - Malaga League Results
The Tigers Triples League has alreeady begun the Christmas Break so the only Matches scheduled were in the Lions Pairs League.
Bad weather on Match day caused the cancellation of the Saydo v Lauro match leaving only one fixture played.
Mijas managed a 6-4 home win against La Posada, a result which saw them go back to the top of the league - on Shot Difference!
Of course La Posada have also played one more fixture than Mijias following last week's COVID outbreak.

24th November - Malaga League Results
Week 7 of the Tigers Triples League saw all of the Clubs complete their first 5 matches, with the postponed Benavista v Miraflores fixture being completed.
Lauro and Mijas both had their BYE to round of the fixtures. La Posada overtook Mijas despite a 4-6 home defeat to Miraflores to go into the Christmas break in 2nd place behind Lauro.
Benavista won their re-arranged match against Miraflores but suffered a 2-8 home defeat to Saydo, a result that saw Saydo move level on Points with Mijas.

The Lions Pairs League saw an unexpected postponement of the match between Mijas and Saydo after several of the Mijas team came down with confirmed cases of COVID. Some of them had taken part in the Saydo Open earlier inthe week and the two Clubs thought it expedient to postpone the match until the isolation period had passed.
In the remaining League fixture La Posada had an exciting last end win against Lauro.
With all other games finished the over-all scores were level, Lauro had won 2 games to Saydo's 1 and the remaining game was 16-16 going into the last end. With the first jack delivered wide of the rink, the second jack was delivered agonisingly a few centimeters short of a length and the Jack placed on the T.
With Lauro holding a game and match winning shot, the unfortunate Lauro Skip bowled a little too tight and knocked a 2 meter short bowl in for the winning shot to Saydo. Saydo won 2 games and 65-66 on shots to take the 4-6 win.

17th November - Malaga League Results
Week 6 of the Tigers Triples League saw a an apparantley one-sided win for Lauro against Benavista, when the reality had 3 of the games very close until around the 13th end when Lauro forged ahead. The 10-0 result didn't reflect the quality of Benavista's play but it could be equally said that there was no luck in the win for Lauro.
Saydo Wasps, meanwhile, recorded an epic 10-0 home win against 2nd placed Mijas Eagles in a result few would have predicted.
La Posada and Miraflores both had BYES.

In the Lions Pairs League the two top teams both recorded 8-2 victories to keep Mijas Swifts 4 points clear of La Posada Braves with 4 matches played.

16th November - Malaga Challenge Cup Semi-Final Results
The Semi-Final between Benavista and Lauro proved a close and tense affair. With Lauro only winning 2 of the 6 games the match. The "winner takes all" format of the Competition means that the individual team victories were not as important by how many you won by - or just as importantly how few you lost by.
As a consequence the relatively narrow wins on 3 of the matches for Benavista were overturned by the 2 excellent wins to give Lauro a 94-90 victory.
In the other Semi-Final, La Posada, fresh from their own very tense 1 shot win in the previous round, won 5 of their 6 games against Mijas - and the one they lost was by a meagre 2 shots - giving them an impressive 109-89 victory.
The Final will be at the neutral venue of Mjas Bowls Club, on Saturday 25th November starting at the usual time of 11.00 AM.
More details can be found on the Challenge Cup web page.

8th November - Santa Maria Bowls Club Announce Their Forthcoming Disbandonment
In an email to the FAB Delegate, the President of Santa Maria offically announced the intention to close the Club from January 1st 2024.
This was partially due to lack of members and partially due to not being able to correctly update the Club's status with the Junta de Andalucia.
The loss of such a respected Club with a long history that stretches back more than 30 years, is to be lamented. It has been in the pipeline for sometime, however, following the sale of their home ground some 18 months ago.
While a iot of effort was spent trying to keep the Club active, with the generous assistance of Mijas Bowls Club who offered green sharing facilities to Santa Maria, it ultimately proved too difficult to keep the Club viable as a separate entity.
3rd November - Malaga League Results
Week 4 of the Tigers Triples League saw all 6 teams in action for the first time. The top of the table remains close with Lauro. Mijas and La Posada all winning.

1st November - Malaga 2 Bowl Pairs Champions

In an exciting display of superb bowling the teams of Kevin Westwell and Paul Hughes (Lauro Golf Bowls Club) and Allen Gateshill and Nina McKenzie (Saydo Bowls Club) kept the spectators on the edge of their seats.
Kevin and Paul just edged out Allen and Nina after a tense and exciting dispaly of bowling saw the Lauro pair take a commanding lead only for Allen and Nina to stage one of their amazing fightbacks.

31st October - Malaga 2 Bowl Pairs Semi-Finals
Paul Hughes and Kevin Westwell continued their procession towards the title with an comfortable win over fellow Lauro members Terry Higgins and Rob Wright. Paul led superbly putting pressure on the opposition from the start and when called on Kevin "mopped up" with his usual style, resulting in a 23-8 victory.
In the other Semi-Final Graham Jarret and Jeff Turner looked certain to make it an all Lauro final with an impressive 12-3 lead after 10 ends. However Allen Gateshill and Nina McKenzie have a deserved reputation for staging late comebacks and did so again to draw level for the first time in the game on the 17th end. The Saydo pair snatched victory on the final end thanks to 2 perfectly drawn bowls from Allen.
The Final will be tomorrow at 11.00am

30th October - Malaga 2 Bowl Pairs Continues
A couple of all Lauro matches produced some exciting bowling. The match between yesterday's surprise package Ken Pritchard and Peter Meyerhoff against Rob Wright and Terry Higgins went back and forth throughout with the scores level 11-11 after 15 ends but the more experienced pair picked up a crucial 3 shots on the 17th end.
The other all Lauro match saw couple Jane Richardson (partnered by Ann Anderson) and Paul Hughs (with Kevin Westwell) face off for the family bragging rights and of course a place in the Semi-Final.
Really good bowling from both teams saw the teams level at 15 ends, Jane and Ann take a 1 shot lead on the 16th end, Paul and Kevin take a one shot lead on the 17th end and Kevin rescue a potential extra end with a beautifully drawn last bowl to win 17-15.
In the other matches, Alan Gateshill and Nina McKenzie held off a spirited fightback from Simone Morgan and pat Fisher to finish comfortable winners - having both bowled superbly all the way through.
Meanwhile Lauro's Jeff Turner and Graham Jarret had a fairly comfortable win against an out of sorts Tom McLean and Isabel McCarlie to complete the Semi-Final line up. The results and tomorrow's draw can be seen at 2 Bowls Pairs
29th October - Malaga 2 Bowl Pairs Start at Lauro
The first round of the 2 Bowl Pairs began today.
Pre-tournament favourites, Lauro's Paul Hughes and Kevin Westwell - who rarely lose on their home ground - got off to a strong start against Club mates Dine and John Warn.
The suprise result was probably Ken Pritchard and Peter Meyerhoff - relative novices in FAB Competitions - take a good win against veterans Barbara land and Mary Detheridge, having led from the first end to the last.
The results can be seen at 2 Bowls Pairs
27th October - Malaga League Results

26th September - Summer Championships Open Pairs Day 4

Congratulations to 2023 Champions Allen Gateshill and Nina McKenzie (Saydo)
In the morning Semi-Finals another excellent game between Allen Gateshill and Nina Mckenzie against Jeff Rowe and Carolyn Hogarth which was nip and tuck for most of the ends before Allenand Nina eventually took the win in the final few ends.
The other Semi-Final saw Ron and Sue Jones (Lauro) defeat Tom McLean and Isabel McCarlie in a game where Sue was at her very best and settng up the game for a comforatable win.
In the afternoon Ron and Sue got off to a flying start, bowling well and forcing Allen to play a lot of "saving" bowls to stay in the game. He kept on doing that throughout the game, eventually bringing it to a 15-15 going into the last end. Once again 2 or 3 down he managed to play an excellent 4th bowl to take the end and the game on the tightest of measures. As often in the case, the only time Allen and Nina led was on that victorious last end.

Jeff and Carolyn held their nerve and won the tie breaking 19th end with 2 shots.
An honourable mention too, goes to Peter Tongeri and new bowler John Fyfe in his first tournament who played very well to reach the quarrter finals.

25th September - Summer Championships Open Pairs Day 2
A full day of bowling as 16 Pairs battled for a place in the next round. Once again some superb bowling produced some classic games and the pick was probably the all Saydo affair which saw husband and wife JIM and Isabel McCarlie on opposite sides in a battle for bragging rights.
As you would expect it was a tough encounter but Isabel and partner Tom Mclean emerged the victors over Jim and his partner Andy Wake

Sometimes Bowls Finals can be a bit of an anti-climax. Not this one. It was a game that had everything. Two closely matched teams playing very well, constantly changing heads, spectacular shots and - yes - some outrageously good and bad luck.
One team would take the lead and then the other would overtake them.. Entertining, edge of the seat bowling from both teams and a very good win for the Saydo team. Commiserations to Lauro's Ron Jones, Julian Thomas, Margaret Woodin and Terry Higgins.

The game was called off in February after 3 ends due to gale force winds and torrential rain making the green unplayable.
Lauro need to win 8-2 to take 4th place from Saydo and went into the match full of confidence after a good 6-4 win at Benavista the previous day. Saydo also had their tails up fresh from celebrating an excellent 10 - 0 win away to Miraflores.
Despite some quality bowling from Saydo - especially from Terry Brooker who had "one of those days" when everything went right for him, Lauro took the Match 8-2 to take 4th place.

17th March 2023 - Lions League Ends As Lauro Claim 2nd Place
An excellent 6-2 victory in the re-arranged League match against La Posada Braves saw the Lions take 2nd spot by just 1 point from Benavista Leopards
The Match resumed after heavy rain and gale-force winds forced the original game to be stopped.

17th March 2023 - Tigers League- Congratulations to the Winners - Santa Maria Admirals
After a tough campaign Santa Maria Admirals clinched the title on the ultimate day of the season, finally winning the League by 10 points with a 5-5 draw against Mijas Eagles.
Chased all the way by Benavista Panthers they went into their last game knowing 2 points would be enough to win the title, whatever the result of Benavista's final game.
Benavista hung on to 2nd place despite unexpectedly losing 6-4 to Lauro Tigers, the 4 points being enough to enjoy a single point advantage over 3rd place La Posada Warriors.
Lauro Tigers, meanwhile go into their re-arranged game against currently 4th placed Saydo Wasps needing to win by at least 4 points to overtake them for that 4th place.
That match will be on Saturday 19th and will conclude the Winter League programme.

10th March 2023 - Santa Maria Admirals Close In On Triples League Title
With one round of fixtures left to play the Triples League title looks like it is heading to Santa Maria Admirals.
This week's 13th round of matches saw santa maria take a close match against Lauro 7-3, while fellow contenders Benavista went down 8-2 to La Posada.
This leaves Santa Maria leading La Posada (who have finished all of their matches and have the BYE next week) by 6 points. Only Benavista can mathematically overtake Santa Maria - they are 9 points behind going into the final matches.
To do so they will have to win their final match at home to Lauro 10-0 and at the same time Santa Maria would have to lose 10-0 at home to bottom of the table Mijas Eagles. Neither scenario is likely but watch this space.
For full results and League table check out the web page: Triples League Results
10th March 2023 - Congratulations to Pairs League Winners - Mijas Swifts
With the Pairs League programme coming to a close after the final round of fixtures, we can Congratulate Mijas Swifts on their comprehensive victory.
Amassing 59 points from a possible 64 they have proven unstoppable all season. Well Done!
Benavista currently hold 2nd place with half of that number of points - 29 - but could be overtaken by Lauro Lions (24 points) after their rain-stopped match against La Posada Braves is finished next weekend.

1st July - Leagues Finally Finish
Both Spring leagues have now come to a conclusion.
League Champions are:
Pairs League: Mijas Bowls Club
Australian Pairs League: Lauro Golf Bowls Club
Congratulations to both Clubs
This was a new concept for the Malaga Province and 2 new Leagues. At the outset we said it would be a new experience and we would take stock at the end to see what worked and what didn't.
We certainly weren't expecting the ferocious heat of mid-June and the subsequent decisions of quite a few bowlers to pull out of the league in its latter stages because of it.
Part of the discussions between the Clubs will be to decide whether those temperatures are a one-off or should be expected for next year.

11th March - Lauro Win Pairs League
In a day of high drama, the Pairs League was settled in an unusual fashion.
The day started with high hopes for the Lauro Mustangs, going into their final Pairs League match.
They were 9 points clear of the closest rival in the shape of Mijas Apaches but were well aware that Mijas still had 2 games to play and a possible 20 points up for grabs.
It was vital therefore that they got a good result away to Saydo – who had only recorded 2 victories all season – to put pressure on their rivals.
There was bitter disappointment, though when Saydo turned in a terrific performance to take a 7-3 home victory.
Although those 3 points gave a 12 point lead at the top there was little optimism amongst the Lauro team that Mijas couldn’t make that up over their 2 games.
All that changed in less than an hour after the news came in of a shock 10-0 defeat for Mijas AT HOME to Benavista! It was a shock because Benavista had only won ONCE all season.
Figures were checked and double checked the news of the result verified and realisation sunk in - the Mustangs were PAIRS LEAGUE CHAMPIONS!
Congratulations to Lauro Mustangs, on a well deserved victory.
You can see all of the results and the League table HERE

Malaga Provincial 2 Bowl Pairs Winners - 24th November 2021
This competition saw an historic FIRST for Lawn Bowls in Malaga as Mijas Bowls Club's all Spanish duo of Juan Abeal and Manolo Suarez lifted the Men's 2 Bowls Pairs title at La Posada. Their win saw the first ALL SPANISH TEAM win a major Competition in the Province. They beat Lauro's Trevor Burgin and Robert Wright in a highly competitive game.
In the Ladies Final the Santa Maria pair of Barbara Land and Mary Detheridge beat Saydo pairing of Lesley Bell and Pat Baker. The encounter was very much a "game of two halves" with the early stages seeing Lesley and Pat holding a lead right up to the 9th end, before the Santa Maria ladies found their length to pull away in the second half of the game. Once again the game proved a real tussle between two leads on top form, with Mary just edging it.

Pauline held her nerve and picked up a match winning 2 in the final end. Pauline adds the Singles title to her recent Triples win
Ladies Triples Malaga Provincial Ladies Triples Winners - 13th October
Congratulations to our 2021 Winners, Joan Corbett, Pauline Ward and Pauline Ball from Mijas Lawn Bowls Club. In one of the best Finals of recent years the game was all level after 17 ends. The 18th end was replayed after some excellent bowling from both sides resulted in the end being "killed" by Joan Corbett. The replayed end was another example of superb bowling from both teams but the Mijas team came away with a well-earned victory. Commiserations to the losing finalists Janice Rowe, Shelley Greenwodd and Julie Banfield from La Posada Bowls Club
Ladies Triples
Malaga Provincial Men's Triples Winners - 13th October

Corona Virus Restrictions
A separate page for Corona virus updates has now been introduced. Please use that for all your latest news on how it is affecting our Sport.
7th June - Phase 3 is Introduced
The government has announced that we will enter Phase 3 as of Monday 8th June.
This will be the final Phase before the return to what is being called “the new normal”.
Whilst the National government has set the protocols for Phase 3, they have also devolved power to the Regional governments to decide when and how Phase 3 develops and ends.
Once again there seems to be a difference between sports facilities and other facilities and there is little change to the protocols that affect us in Phase 3.
Here is what we have received so far as explicit instructions:
• Booking no longer necessary – however records of attendance must continue to be maintained.
• 50% use of the green surface up to a maximum of 20 players
(effectively we can use a maximum of 4 rinks)
• face mask not mandatory if the distance of 2 meters is maintained – for those over 70 their use is recommended at all times.
• spectators 1 every 20 meters
• Club bar remains closed, drinks must be brought from home
Effectively the rest of the protocols remain in force from Phase 2.
However, we are in a very fluid situation. The Junta de Andalucia has requested permission to allow travel between provinces.
The FAB has submitted a draft proposal to the FEB to present to the CSD. Hopefully this will allow decisions to be made at a regional level very soon.
The primary concern is that in Lawn Bowls the majority of our members are in the High Risk age bracket which the government continues to try to protect more vigorously than the general population. This may mean that restrictions for our Sport remain tighter for longer.
Update 29th May 2020. Malaga will move in to Phase 2 on Monday 1st June
Go to our Corona Virus page for more information.
Update 12th May 2020 - Note These changes refer to Phase 1.
Today we received more information from Consejo Superior Deportivo (CSD) and the F.E.B.
Notification of Return to Training For The Sport Of Bowls
For those Provinces that have been allowed to transition to Phase 1, the conditions are established in which professional, High Level, High Performance, national interest and federated athletes can carry out their sports activity during this phase. Both the CSD and the FEB aim to promote the reactivation of Bowling while maintaining health security, activating the measures that guarantee the lowest risk in the development of our federated sport, mitigating the appearance of new cases and their spread. (FAB Website can be viewed here)
OUR PRIORITY GOAL IS THE PROTECTION AND SAFETY OF OUR ATHLETES.

On the 14th March the Spanish Government passed a decree putting the country in "lockdown". These strict restrictions mean that all Sports facilities will be closed until further notice.
All bowls activity will be suspended until these restrictions are lifted.
Please stay safe, stay at home and stay well.
